In this week of Judging a Game by its Demo, things are going to be done a little different. The new demos that have been released has made me quite upset. After looking at “Up” “X Blades” and “Bionic” I am sick to my stomach. Not only were these games remarkably horrendous, but I also waited almost 3 weeks for a demo to show up. So due to my long anticipated wait for a demo to review and then be presented with a crap filled basket of games I am going to this review slightly obscure compared to the previous reviews. Instead of breaking down each game with my in-game experience, I am instead going to list the top 5 things I hate about each game because they don’t deserve a full review. So here it goes:

X Blades:

1. This game is full of horrible dialogue that makes the game seem like it was made by a 3rd grader.

2. An unexplained opening video that leaves you sitting there asking yourself, “What was the point of that?”

3. The aiming mechanic of the game is horrible. When it comes to multiple characters, you cant easily distinguish your target.

4. The camera control is not intuitive, it will be very difficult to navigate around the horribly designed environment.

5. Just another button mashing titty game.

**Positive: Hot girl with lots of weapons. Sweet, but not enough to play the game. [2 hot warriors out of 10]

Pixar’s Up

1. The only interesting character, the talking dog, isn’t even in the demo!!

2. Getting through the game is way too easy.

3. Replay value is zero…if you can even make it through this boring demo.

4. Cliche lines every couple minutes that makes the game completely lame.

5. It’s another game made from a movie. Enough said.

**Positive: You can hit your teammate in multiplayer to create an unintentional but funny battle between your friends. [2 over sized helium balloons out of 10]

Bionic multiplayer Demo

1. Overly dark maps that makes it extremely difficult to play.

2. No details in the characters and the only thing distinguishing the different teams is color.

3. Lack of weapons to use.

4. The lack of a good tutorial. You start the game with a band of players that all have no idea what they are doing.

5. The obvious attempt to copy Halo and the epic fail that goes along with it.

**Positive:…There is no positive, don’t play it. [1 halo wannabe out of 10]

So please, for your own good, stay away from these games. It is just a waste of your time. Stick to the games that you play now…until next Judging a Game by its Demo. Hopefully there will be something better than this.

Formulaic or not, you just can’t argue with the combination of sandpaper-like vocals, bluesy power chords, animated lead guitar, thudding eighth notes on the bass and metronomic, no-frills, no-fills drumming that just makes you just want to bang your head and rock out. It’s genius, and it’s worked since 1974. And yeah, yeah, I know these guys are hurtling toward retirement age. Who cares? They still rock! Spot On!

Asher Roth: “I Love College” Gotta love that “I’m nice right now” spoken intro. I also somehow think that the drunken stutter immediately afterward is real. If that’s the case, well, perfect! The funky instrumentation is superb - especially the wah-wahed lead guitar fills - and I must give Asher props for doing his own thing and not trying to jump on any particular bandwagon. The somewhat literary tone to these accessible lyrics show that Mr. Roth has a knack for observation and storytelling on par with Ray Davies and skillfully captures the mood of a campus bash vividly enough to remind me of the stories my brother told me about his days at Vassar. Spot On!

Taylor Swift: “Crazier” I can’t say I don’t appreciate the sentiment of this pedestrian, sleep-inducing, waltz tempo love song, but I have heard better. For example, the first few lines fail to hold my attention, since the metaphors about the wind and opening doors have been done before. As sweet as this is overall, it really doesn’t speak to me, and it’s just plain boring. Not on!

New Found Glory: “Listen To Your Friends” As we all know, Green Day achieved mainstream success in 1994. Since then - and to be sure, I don’t think we ought to blame Green Day - there has been a glut of bands playing a more refined, mainstream, radio-friendly version of punk… for example, New Found Glory. Hey! Hold on! Punk rock started out as being all about doing things differently! It was supposed to be dangerous music! What the hell happened? Oh, yeah, that’s right. Record execs clued in to the growing popularity of another grass roots movement, reabsorbed it back into the $#!*stem, castrated it, added extraneous rules and marketed it as a safe packaged rebellion for gullible adolescents who try too hard to be cool. Either that, or some of these “punk” bands became venal and decided to let themselves be led around by the nose to the brass ring rather than telling those greedy, short-sighted, tone deaf A&R men to %&*# off. Granted, Johnny Rotten did talk about “doing things out of necessity,” but I’d like to think that some people got greedy. As a result of all this, we have whiny, non-threatening, formulaic songs like this same one. The lyrics about waking up in a hospital waiting room may be gritty enough, but no song with that kind of content should sound this limp. Not on!

Seether: “Careless Whisper” I have to say I did not quite know what to expect, but this leaden interpretation of the hit song by George Michael is perhaps one of the best covers I have ever heard. The lead guitar plays the sax riff note for note, and Shaun Morgan’s vocal interpretation makes the pain, self-pity and pleas for forgiveness even more palpable and powerful than the original. As a result, it’s official. These South African rockers own this song. Spot on!

Wolfmother: “Back Round” This heavy number begins with ringing twin guitars playing a somewhat Celtic-sounding fanfare a la Thin Lizzy. Shortly after the drums begin, there is some good old fashioned sludgy power chord bashing that brings to mind the infectious, old-school primal riffs of Black Sabbath and Budgie. Even though guitarist and singer Andrew Stockdale’s voice can easily be compared to that of Ozzy Osbourne, I for one think it would be lazy to label this Australian band as derivative. If anything, I am glad that there’s someone out there keeping this style of music alive. Spot on!

Yusuf (formerly Cat Stevens): “Thinking ‘Bout You” This gentle song of devotion that will easily appeal to anybody who loved Tea For The Tillerman is engaging right from its intro, which is made up of fluid fingerpicked acoustic guitar with a descending bass line. One particularly wonderful thing about the lyrics is that the message could either be interpreted as being directed toward a lover or to God, but that would not matter to any first time listener, especially one who does not know that Cat Stevens converted to Islam over thirty years ago. Such ambiguity results in a song that is sweet, sincere and genuine with no trace of mawkish treacle anywhere. Spot on!

LMFAO: “I’m In Miami, Trick” This song does have a marginally enjoyable swagger to it. Sadly, it gets old with a quickness, and beyond that, I see nothing much to offer. The electronic beat is repetitive and therefore quite wack, and although the lyrics are clever in some spots, there’s no way they can redeem this tune. Of course, it’s perfect for the atmosphere of those trendy-ass clubs that I hate with a passion, so despite its shortcomings, this song will sell, especially once every misogynistic frat boy in the country has a listen. Nonetheless, I hope this Hollywood electro-hop duo makes the most of their royalties, because in a few years time, I do not think anybody will want to be bothered with this song. I sure don’t, not even now. Not on!

Taylor Hicks: “What’s Right Is Right” As I said last week, don’t be fooled by somebody’s American Idol credentials. Having listened to this song, I cannot say this enough. The instrumentation is O.K., especially the Hammond organ, electric piano and saxophone, but Taylor’s voice is reminiscent of enough of Michael Bolton to make me cringe. Well, at least there will be plenty of lonely middle-aged women to keep this guy on the charts, and I’m sure Mr. Bolton could use another mediocre white guy to help maintain his legacy of systematically committing R&B sacrilege after R&B sacrilege. After all, “What’s right is right.” However, this is NOT ON!

Stevie Wonder: “All About The Love Again” This very well may be the feel-good song for the Obama years, but being that Stevie Wonder is behind it, it will surely transcend its time, especially if there’s a message of hope and optimism set to excellent clavinet and hummable chromonica anchored by a great walking Detroit soul rhythm that brings back memories of his 1973 hit “Higher Ground.” Lyrically, there are plenty of interesting concepts, too. Soda that makes us love each other? Lotion that makes everybody start sharing? I gotta get me some of that! Spot on!

Michael Vick was released on March 20, 2009 after serving 21 months in jail. Vick plead guilty in August of 2007 to a federal charge of bank rolling a dog fight operation in his Virginia home. In December 2007, he was sentenced to serve a 23 month federal prison term; 3 years of prison time in Virginia on other charges was suspended upon condition of good behavior. With loss of his substantial NFL and product endorsement income, Vick filed for Chapter 11 reorganization bankruptcy protection in July 2008, with liabilities of $20.5 million and assets of $16 million. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Frank Santoro said the plan requested up to $1 million in cash to paid to creditors but did not believe Vick could immediately produce that amount of money in a short amount of time. Santoro suggested that Vick should do away with two houses and three cars he intended to keep in the rejected proposal.

According to CNN, Vick’s sports agent, who negotiated his $140 million contract with the Falcons, believes the athlete will resume his professional football career as soon as September upon a pending NFL reinstatement. On the contrary, the athlete’s attorneys say he will make a living at the Newport News construction firm immediately after his release and that he has also consented to take part in a documentary film for $600,000. Vick’s part in the dog fighting scandal was huge. The dog fighting operation was named “Bad Newz Kennels,” according to the indictment, and the dogs were housed, trained and fought at a Surry County, Virginia property owned by Vick. He would run the fights and fund them.

What Michael Vick did was pretty sick and unforgivable. However not everyone grew up in the type of environment as he did, I’m not justifying his actions. Dog fighting has unfortunately been around for hundreds of years and hasn’t been stopped. What happened with Michael Vick was terrible but something positive may come out of this. After his release, Vick plans to work with the Humane Society of the United States in a anti-dog fighting campaign to raise awareness among young people about the blood sport, in addition to mentoring those who have already participated dog fights. Vick may have a strong influence on young people and can help them avoid getting into those types of situations. LaDainian Tomlinson, an elite running back and an excellent role model, has attended dog fights before, claiming that it’s a normal thing in Texas. When someone grows up in an environment like that, it’s hard to know different or to not attend an event like that. Vick can have a huge effect on youngsters and even adults that may consider taking part in the bloodsport.

You either love her or hate her. You may have seen her cuteness on the Mickey Mouse Club. At the young and naïve age of 16, she became not only a pop star, but also a sex symbol. She was one of the lucky girls to date Justin Timberlake. And, her life slowly went downhill after meeting a guy who changed her life for the worse. She is the famous Britney Spears!!!

The interesting thing that I have noticed is about 95% of the guys I know hate her, and about half of the girls either love her or hate her. I asked a few people what they think about Britney and here are some of the quotes (the first two are from guys and the last two are from girls). Some are really harsh!

“Britney’s an overrated slut. It’s easy to become famous when you have a pretty face. All you need to be willing to do is lip-sync someone else’s words, ‘sing’ about nothing but sex, and show your genitalia while ‘innocently’ getting out of a car.” –Kristoffer

“Britney is a very wonderful human being and deserves to be treated like a queen. She’s also extremely gorgeous and I’m not worthy to wipe her butt. She also has the potential to further screw her life over.” -Jasper

“Britney Spears is a great performer and singer. I think her old music is a lot better than now. My favorite song is Womanizer because it reminds me of her old, edgy beats. I hope she continues her success!” -Jensine

“I used to like listening to her music, but now I think she’s a bimbo. She’s like those teenage mothers in high school you want to stay away from. I pity her babies.” -Lily

For my part, I love that girl. I have grown up listening to her bubble-gum pop music. I do not know why a lot of people criticize that genre. It’s just for fun. I know that her lyrics may not be so serious, deep and intellectual, and I know she does not write her own music (just like many other pop stars) and I really do not care. Her music is just incredibly fun to listen to. Her songs are also the few that my friends and I can make silly fun music videos to. And, even though now most of her songs have sex-filled lyrics, the songs still have a good beat that is still fun to sing to during a long and boring car ride or, dance to while getting ready in the morning.

After meeting that brainless backup dancer Kevin Federline (I have no idea what she was thinking!) she got pregnant and started becoming unattractive. And yes, for a couple years she partied way too much and did some awfully nasty things, but that happens to a lot of other great people in Hollywood. That stuff even happens to every-day people, and nobody gives them as hard of a time as the millions of people who hate Britney Spears. She has accomplished so much and put out many top songs (Hit Me Baby One More Time, I’m a Slave 4 U, Toxic, Gimme More, Womanizer, Circus, and many more) and I love all of them! This year is also a huge year for her. Britney is starting to get her life back together and her most recent tour was a success. And not to mention, her looks have improved drastically from her regretful and unhealthy years. She even made #17 on Maxim’s hot 100 of 2009!! She has definitely made a comeback that many other “good, gone bad” stars failed to achieve. You may love her not, but I definitely love her. And because of her success, I agree with the sad cries and true words of Chris Crocker…leave Britney alone!

This case is about a professor. It is a firsthand account from the young student who sits next to me. She is a beautiful young student who does nothing but complain about our professor. The professor herself is extremely irritating and asks questions of the class that do not require answering. I asked the cute girl next to me to write me a manifesto about our assumptive/unintelligent/pretentious/ridiculous/candy coated professor. The following are her words:

I understand the humor in being pretentious but I just cannot understand my history professor. The first day of class she spent 30 minutes explaining how she is not racist despite the excessive amount of racist terms she is going to use. If this isn’t considered hypocritical I don’t know what is.

The real kicker about my pretentiously hypocritical history professor is her uncertainty about everything she teaches. She asks the class a rhetorical question like, “Has anyone ever been on a train?” She asks this after a small spiel about the transcontinental railroad. Pausing for an uncomfortable amount of time, she asks again until she finally says, “I’m sure some of you have,” under her breath. The only reason I heard the latter is because I sit in the front row.

She is fat, old, and claims to have been an anti-war activist in her golden years (the sex/drug plagued 60’s). She cannot lecture without holding a lollipop and treats the entire class of 110 students like we are mentally retarded. As soon as the lecture on trains ends, she goes into war. TIME WARP! All of a sudden she stops speaking like a pretentious bitch person and passionately orates. The funniest part of all this is that, despite spraying the first three rows with saliva; she is also flicking her lollipop about like a gavel. With every inflection of speech she knocked the thing on the desk and returns it to her mouth. UNSANITARY! The room is hot and the students just gawk as saliva coagulates into small sticky patches of sugar on their faces.

She e-mailed me this piece in confidence that i would not show the teacher…so I posted it on the intanetz.

Things to learn:

1. Don’t give articles to me to post online

2. Don’t ever take a history class with professor “***”

3. Assume all professors are somewhat biased (racist)

4. Answer rhetorical questions with sarcasm because it is more fun

We have all heard it before, the economy is as bad as its been since the Great Depression. Jobs are hard to find and prices just keep on going up. For college students, its even harder. Without a degree in hand, its hard to get a decent job to pay for all the outragous cost of attending school. It has forced many of us to live at home with our parents!!! Not to mention the constant worry of still living with them upon graduation because no one is hiring! It is what I call a tragedy and not until recently could I think of a solution. However, I have found that solution, and it is called AIESEC.

AIESEC is a student run organization that is located at over 35 campuses around the United States. AIESEC provides jobs in foreign countries, self development skills, and an extensive network of over 800,00 alumni. Let me break this down a little bit more. By joining this organization, you are given the opportunity to work well paid internships in over 100 countries all around the world. This is great for students because it gives them a chance to see the world and work at a professional job that they can add to their resume. This obvious leads to an edge over your fellow graduates for a job upon graduation, not to mention, you may even get a job from the company that you had an internship with. I am actually going to Japan to work a marketing internship next year. And one of the great things about the exchange program is that you can go work abroad up to 2 years after you graduate. So if you do graduate in a bad economy, you can just go to another country and work there.

In addition to the chance to work abroad, you also have the chance to work for the local chapter. Although, you do not get paid to work for the local you do gain professional experience that most college students don’t obtain. AIESEC is a business and the local chapters are what keep the business running. The local chapters are made up of an executive board with a president and a set of VP’s and then a few managers to regulate the rest of the AIESEC chapter. All members of the chapter are able to take on any of these positions. Being in any of these positions, you gain knowledge of essentially running a business which is a great skill to have when going out into the world.

Another benefit of AIESEC is its extensive network of alumni. AIESEC was started in 1948 so over the years has generated nearly a million alumni and since AIESEC is such an amazing experience all the alumni are more than willing to help out others who have been in AIESEC. Again, this is just another added benefit upon graduation.

So take a look at AIESEC.org and find your nearest local chapter and jump ahead of your competition upon graduation. You can also leave comments at the bottom of this post if you have any questions about AIESEC. I will respond promptly with a response.

Making matters worse, Carrie Underwood’s piercing vocals - particularly grating on the chorus - push the schmaltz on this Randy Travis song all the way to eleven. Sure, she may be talented, but I think she ought to hand the mike to somebody who… I dunno… DOESN’T let people tell her what to sing and how to sing it. Moral of the story - just because they win on American Idol, it doesn’t mean their musical output will be listenable. In regard to this song - the sonic equivalent of tapioca pudding - I rest my case. Not on!

Ashley Tisdale: “It’s Alright, It’s O.K.” Two minutes into this shrill, whiny song, while craving ibuprofen, I reflected upon how much the music business has become an industry, and in this day and age, I do not use that word lightly. Indeed, one of its major factories has been Mauschwitz… oops, I mean, the Walt Disney Company, a fertile breeding ground for homogenized bubblegum pop stars and their cookie-cutter pop songs. To Ashley’s credit, this song is a bit on the empowering side. I just hope that in time, she takes stock of her career and decides to make music with a little bit more grit and doesn’t pander to psychologically damaged suburban mallrats. Not on!

Theory Of A Deadman: “Hate My Life” This is what Nickelback would sound like if they didn’t take themselves too damned seriously. In this wry, clever country-tinged number that oddly brings to mind something from Harry Nilsson’s eccentric Son of Schmilsson album, lead singer Tyler Connolly humorously covers all the bases with his laundry list of complaints - homeless beggars, bad drivers, the boss, the wife, the rich friends, that hot underage girl and her hyper-vigilant father… it’s all there, just about and you cannot help laughing, be it with reflection or relief. Either way… Spot on!

MGMT: “Kids” A catchy, danceable synth rhythm, a drum beat that occasionally brings to mind AC/DC, and sweet but dark lyrics that bring back memories and as such will resonate with many. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, there’s a noodly, Baroque-style piano solo about three minutes in that is quite comparable to Sir George Martin’s contribution to the Beatles classic “In My Life.” Rarely is electronic music this soulful. Spot on!

The Veronicas: “Take Me On The Floor” This song about a fun night at the dance club caused some eyebrows to be raised for its “I wanna kiss a girl, I wanna kiss a girl, I wanna kiss a boy” lyric. Jeez. Shock and awe. As if implied promiscuity and homoerotic overtones in a pop song are anything new. Honestly, I don’t feel that this song is interesting enough to pitch a fit about. Judging from the dull octave-leaping synth riff on the intro, there isn’t that much going on and if you’ve heard one song like this, you’ve heard them all. Having made up my mind that this was too painful to listen to all the way through, I shut it off and opted for “Sweet And Dandy” by Toots and the Maytals instead. Now there’s song about dancing. Not on!

Lady Gaga: “Love Game” Having already heard “Poker Face” and not being impressed in the least, I sort of knew what I was getting into when I gave this a listen. And so it transpires, la-dee-dah, more sterile cotton candy electronic dance music, with a bona fide disco rhythm, no less and a refrain with one of the least clever innuendos I have ever heard - “Let’s have some fun, this beat is sick/I wanna take a ride on your disco stick.” Gee, I thought disco had been dead since 1980, having been found in some sleazy, decadent penthouse kitty corner from Studio 54, face down in a pile of blow, having overdosed both on that and mediocrity. Guess there still is some twitching in that particular corpse. Oh, joy! Not on!

Eli Young Band: “Always The Love Songs” Call me blinkered, but I’ve always thought that pop country songs all sounded the same, and this is no exception. This is so formulaic, boring, and above all, sappy. Indeed, these Texans make all the best effort to tug at my heartstrings. Sadly, the only result is a headache. Not on!

Chris Cornell: “Part Of Me” It’s great to know that ex-Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell’s voice still retains its power, and judging from this track, displays a great deal of versatility. However, Soundgarden fans beware! Instead of the heavy rock that you are used to, this is an electro-pop song. But on the other hand, it’s catchy and danceable across the board, and even though I prefer Soundgarden, I must give Chris Cornell credit for making brave artistic decisions. Spot on!

Saving Abel: “Drowning” This song has nice chord changes, a great Lynyrd-Skynyrd-meets-Pearl-Jam vibe, and a great soulful guitar solo with sweet, stinging vibrato. I do wish that there were more vocal layers on the chorus to add to the gospel feel of this number, but otherwise, it’s a good one. What I particularly like is that Jared Weeks’ urgent, pleading vocals are full of emotion, even during the quieter moments of the song. Moreover, as we all navigate our way through a shipwrecked economy, many of us have “come too far to turn around,” and as such this is a tune that will comfort a lot of people in these dark times. Spot on!

Silversun Pickups: “Panic Switch” The intro consists of a jarring, angular, King Crimsonesque fuzztone guitar phrase repeated four times. As busy drumming begins, the bass starts playing that same riff as the guitar switches to an ascending series of drones before funking things up just a little. Not long after that, we hear unsettling lyrics delivered by an unsettled voice. Aha! Now I get it! This is not just a song! It’s a sonic painting of fear and madness! And an excellent one, at that! Thank God for the pockets of artistry to be found in a musical climate that has been quite dubious, especially over the last fifteen years. Spot on!

No, this is not some mythological showdown… actually it is. Kobe Bryant versus Lebron James in the NBA finals would be epic. Even though it’s not the NBA finals and these two teams aren’t facing each other, it’s still exciting to think about. It’s going to happen the Los Angeles Lakers are going to face the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kobe is going to face Lebron James in the finals… how much better could it be? Bryant and James are two of the most dominant players in basketball and some of the most athletic people on earth. I could see both of these players being two sport athletes. CLICK HERE TO SEE LEBRON IN THE NFL! CLICK HERE TO SEE KOBE’S SOCCER SKILLS! So the big question is who is better? Lakers fans of course will say Kobe and Cavaliers fans will say Lebron. But who is honestly better? Its tough to say exactly who is better. This topic is likely to spark up a huge argument. It’s one of the most controversial topics right now in the NBA. It’s like comparing Michael Jordan to another player, everyone will be fighting to prove a point. What makes Kobe or Lebron the better player? Rookie year? Their peaks? Championships? MVP Awards? Olympic Gold medals? Stats? All-Star trips?

Both players came out of high school and went directly to the NBA; however, both had two different draft experiences. Bryant was chosen as the 13th overall draft pick by the Charlotte Hornets in 1996. However, according to Arn Tellem, Bryant’s agent at the time, Bryant playing for the Charlotte Hornets was “an impossibility”. Nevertheless, the Charlotte Hornets selected Bryant, seeing that there was a chance to trade with the Lakers. Prior to the draft, Bryant had worked out in Los Angeles, in which he scrimmaged against former Lakers players Larry Drew and Michael Cooper, and according to then-Laker manager Jerry West “marched over these people”. On July 1, 1996, West traded his starting center, Vlade Divac, to the Hornets in exchange for Bryant’s draft rights. Since he was still 17 at the time of the draft, his parents had to cosign his contract with the Lakers until he was able to sign his own when he turned 18 before the season began. During his rookie season, Bryant mostly came off the bench behind guards Eddie Jones and Nick Van Exel. At the time he became the youngest player ever to play and start in an NBA game (both records since being broken by teammate Andrew Bynum). Initially, Bryant played limited minutes, but as the season continued, he began to see some more playing time. By the end of the season, he averaged 15.5 minutes a game. He earned himself a reputation as a high-flyer and a fan-favorite by winning the 1997 Slam Dunk Contest. Bryant’s performance throughout the year earned him a spot on the NBA All Rookie second team with fellow bench teammate Travis Knight. His final minutes of the season ended in disaster when he shot 2 air balls at crucial times in the game. He missed the first shot to win the game in the 4th quarter and a three pointer to send the game into double overtime. With that the Utah Jazz ended the playoffs for the Lakers in the first round. Shaquille O’Neal commented years later that “Kobe was the only guy who had the guts at the time to take shots like that.” Spike Lee even made a movie about Kobe called Kobe Doin’ Work WATCH KOBE DOIN WORK HERE!!!

Lebron had a different story. James attempted to declare for the NBA draft after the season ended, petitioning for an adjustment to the NBA’s draft eligibility rules, which at the time required prospective players to have at least completed high school. The petition was unsuccessful, but it ensured him an unprecedented level of nation-wide attention as he entered his senior year. In his first season James was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the first overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. Facing the Sacramento Kings in his first NBA game, James recorded 25 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals and shot 60% from the floor. During the after-game press conference, James was asked who he wanted to be like the most and his answer was Jason Kidd. James had admired Kidd since he took the floor in 1994 and dedicated his first triple-double to him. James praised Kidd by saying he was the best point guard alive today, and his passing abilities were second to none. After recording a season-high 41 points against the New Jersey Nets, James became the youngest player in league history to score at least 40 points in a game. He averaged 20.9 points, 5.9 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game for the season, and was named 2003-04 NBA Rookie of the Year; becoming the first Cavalier and youngest NBA player to ever receive the award. He joined Oscar Robertson and Michael Jordan as the only players in NBA history to average at least 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game in their rookie season. The Cavaliers improved by 18 wins and concluded the regular season with a 35–47 record, but failed to make the playoffs. Both players had impressive rookie seasons, but the win in this category goes to The King.

I’m giving the win to Kobe already in this category. Kobe has three championships, all with the Lakers, while LeBron has none. LeBron has made it to the NBA Finals but they were easily swept by San Antonio. Kobe’s three outstanding years came in 1999-2002, the Championship years. With Jerry West out of the picture in 1999, in comes in Phil Jackson. Kobe had been developing his skills over the next two seasons. He became the youngest player ever to be invited to the NBA All-Star game. He was one of the premier shooting guards in the NBA, maybe the best at that time. It’s easy to argue about Kobe and Lebron’s championship situation. Kobe had an overall better supporting cast, which is crucial. Having Zydrunas Ilgauskas as your big man and Head Coach Mike Brown is definitely not the same as having Head Coach Phil Jackson and Shaquille O’Neal on your team! I’m not making excuses but you could see how this argument could blow up. Kobe definitely was talented and one of the most valuable players during the championship years. He earned All NBA Second team and All NBA Defensive Team for the second year in a row and finally All NBA First Team for the first time in his career. The win goes to Kobe.

Last category to measure the two in… Who is doing better right now? Statistically, LeBron is. If either player were to leave their team, each team would suffer greatly. So how can this be rationalized? As of right now both players have a MVP Award but Kobe has championships and many awards; however LeBron is younger than Kobe is. I think the Cavaliers would definitely suffer worse than the Lakers would if they would lose both star players. Kobe was definitely hurled into a better team but that meant he had to start from the bottom as where LeBron automatically became the Atlas of the Cavaliers. Kobe earned his first MVP in the 2007-2008 season, LeBron earned his this year but he is only 24 so he earned his first five years before Kobe did. Lebron was the 2004 NBA Rookie of the year, Kobe was on the All NBA Rookie second team. Neither player has earned NBA Finals MVP, but its fair game for both right now. Kobe has one more NBA All-Star MVP awards than LeBron does and three more championships. However like i said Lebron has better statistics than Kobe does. Statistics don’t mean everything but they still count!

So my final decision in who wins is….. Michael Jordan. Best player hands down. Kobe’s future can be great and he is turning 31 soon, so he needs to make the best out of the years. However Lebron, 24, has a bright future ahead of him if he wins six championships and if he continues to dominate the way that he does, and maybe if he moves to the West to truly prove his dominance, because everyone knows the West is the best, then maybe he’ll have a shot at becoming the real king, not just being the prince. Here are a few videos of all three players. LAKE SHOOW! GO CAVS!

To see if movies are hits or fails, I often read movie reviews. But, I have also picked up a faster way…it’s looking at top box office charts. I think it is a good way to pick a movie when I am on the rush. It isn’t as accurate as reading a movie review, but I just compare how many weeks it has been in office with how many weeks it has been released. I usually go on yahoo or box office mojo to look at the most recent charts; I compared it with others, and they pretty much look exactly alike. Since I really like the organization and efficiency of the charts…and to me they are interesting to read, I decided to make my own Top Box Office Chart based upon the most recent weekend Friday May 15, 2009 - Sunday May 17, 2009.

Of these top 10, I chose 3 I definitely want to see…and here is why.

1. Star Trek: Of course I want to watch this one. My friends told me I absolutely need to watch it in theaters or else I will miss out on a great cinematic experience. It made so much the weekend it came out (about 75,000,000). I also heard this movie is currently the best one out. Another good thing about it is I do not even need to be a Star Trek fan to understand it. However, there are some hardcore Star Trek fans online who are bashing it and they don’t like it. To me, it seems like crazed fans of anything end up not liking the movie version; for example: you always hear people say, “Oh, the book was WAY better”. Here is a clip from YouTube on The Onion. They’re talking about these fans. WATCH IT HERE! Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film as ‘Fun, Watchable’. It’s funny :).

2. Ghosts of Girlfriend’s Past: This movie was never #1 on the charts, even during its first week. I think it is because it came out the same week as Wolverine, and how could a movie compete with that super hero movie many people have been anticipating? In this top 10 chart, it is in the top 5…so it seems like it’s doing pretty well. I also thought the trailer was very cute. I love these cute romantic comedies! Maybe because I’m a girl. I have not heard many people talking about the movie, but I think I would enjoy it.

3. Monsters vs. Aliens: I am impressed this movie is still in the Top 10. It is at the bottom, but it has been out for a pretty long time (8 weeks!). When it came out, on March 27th, it was number one on the charts. It is a animated action comedy. This movie was also made in 3D and 2D. I would not see it in 3D because the last time I saw a 3D movie (My Bloody Valentine) I felt dizzy and sick…and it even cost more. I don’t want to waste money on a movie that makes me nauseous.

Since these charts don’t tell you if people enjoyed the movie or not, you cannot actually see if the movie was a good one or a terrible one. I just think these charts are useful to see what most people are seeing, and if it has been on the top charts for a while, then maybe people like it. So, you can’t really fully trust the charts if you are looking to see a great movie, but you can see which ones are hits or failures depending on money.
