As you may be able to telll this is no the regularly scheduled College Case Study…there is a good reason for this. Currently MyUniSpot is going through a change of power. It will be changing over to a different host in addition to going through some changes with its looks. The site should be up and running again with constant post in the next couple of weeks. I apologize to the fans that we have developed. We will be back soon.
We have all heard it before, the economy is as bad as its been since the Great Depression. Jobs are hard to find and prices just keep on going up. For college students, its even harder. Without a degree in hand, its hard to get a decent job to pay for all the outragous cost of attending school. It has forced many of us to live at home with our parents!!! Not to mention the constant worry of still living with them upon graduation because no one is hiring! It is what I call a tragedy and not until recently could I think of a solution. However, I have found that solution, and it is called AIESEC.
AIESEC is a student run organization that is located at over 35 campuses around the United States. AIESEC provides jobs in foreign countries, self development skills, and an extensive network of over 800,00 alumni. Let me break this down a little bit more. By joining this organization, you are given the opportunity to work well paid internships in over 100 countries all around the world. This is great for students because it gives them a chance to see the world and work at a professional job that they can add to their resume. This obvious leads to an edge over your fellow graduates for a job upon graduation, not to mention, you may even get a job from the company that you had an internship with. I am actually going to Japan to work a marketing internship next year. And one of the great things about the exchange program is that you can go work abroad up to 2 years after you graduate. So if you do graduate in a bad economy, you can just go to another country and work there.
In addition to the chance to work abroad, you also have the chance to work for the local chapter. Although, you do not get paid to work for the local you do gain professional experience that most college students don’t obtain. AIESEC is a business and the local chapters are what keep the business running. The local chapters are made up of an executive board with a president and a set of VP’s and then a few managers to regulate the rest of the AIESEC chapter. All members of the chapter are able to take on any of these positions. Being in any of these positions, you gain knowledge of essentially running a business which is a great skill to have when going out into the world.
Another benefit of AIESEC is its extensive network of alumni. AIESEC was started in 1948 so over the years has generated nearly a million alumni and since AIESEC is such an amazing experience all the alumni are more than willing to help out others who have been in AIESEC. Again, this is just another added benefit upon graduation.
So take a look at AIESEC.org and find your nearest local chapter and jump ahead of your competition upon graduation. You can also leave comments at the bottom of this post if you have any questions about AIESEC. I will respond promptly with a response.
