Judging a Game by its Demo - X Blade Makes you Want to Quit Gaming

Friday, 29 May, 2009

In this week of Judging a Game by its Demo, things are going to be done a little different.  The new demos that have been released has made me quite upset.  After looking at “Up” “X Blades” and “Bionic” I am sick to my stomach.  Not only were these games remarkably horrendous, but I also waited almost 3 weeks for a demo to show up. So due to my long anticipated wait for a demo to review and then be presented with a crap filled basket of games I am going to this review slightly obscure compared to the previous reviews.  Instead of breaking down each game with my in-game experience, I am instead going to list the top 5 things I hate about each game because they don’t deserve a full review.  So here it goes:

X Blades:

1. This game is full of horrible dialogue that makes the game seem like it was made by a 3rd grader.

2. An unexplained opening video that leaves you sitting there asking yourself, “What was the point of that?”

3. The aiming mechanic of the game is horrible.  When it comes to multiple characters, you cant easily distinguish your target.

4. The camera control is not intuitive, it will be very difficult to navigate around the horribly designed environment.

5. Just another button mashing titty game.

**Positive: Hot girl with lots of weapons.  Sweet, but not enough to play the game. [2 hot warriors out of 10]

Judging a Game by its Demo - Finally a Good PSP Game for 2009

Friday, 15 May, 2009

Today I am going to be reviewing another 3 demos that were recently released on several platforms and check this out, they are all at least decent quality games.   The demos on the hot seat are, Patapon 2, Wolverine, and Ninja Blade.  Let’s jump right in.

dsc00059X-Men Origins: Wolverine: So yes, another game based on the movie, but wait there is something different about this game….it doesn’t completely suck! Wolverine is 3-d platformer, for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, with the most blood and gore I have ever seen in the genre.  This game is definitely not the one you show the kids at home.  The game starts off with Wolverine skydiving down to the jungle scene.  This is one of the few parts of the game that was poorly made.  You control Wolverine through his decent and it just feels really jagged and with this first impression I almost turned the game off.  Luckily, however I stuck through the pain, because his landing is a small piece of the larger pie of greatness that this game offers.  To break his fall, Wolverine lands on an enemy while ripping him to shreds with his blades.  And since the graphics of this game are significantly above par Read the rest of this entry »

Activision Trying to Monopolize the Music Game Genre

Friday, 8 May, 2009

Rock Band, watch out, Activision may be going in for the kill…

Rock Band has recently been making a name for itself with the release of Rock Band and Rock Band 2 in a time span of less than a year, however will all their hard work result in failure….?

gh-kill-rb1Activision has been over selling Harmonix’s Rock Band with the Guitar Hero series ever since Rock Band and Guitar Hero have been in competition. This past October, Activision showed that they mean business with the release of Guitar Hero World Tour, a multi-instrument game that is now in direct competition with Rock Band. And its doing its job of making Rock Band look like the little kid of the music game  genre while Guitar Hero looking like the master.  Guitar Hero: World Tour’s 2 month existence in 2008 sold 3.4 million units while Rock Band 2’s 4 month existence in 2008 only sold 1.7 million units.  Guitar Hero: World Tour was able to double the sales of Rock Band 2 in half the time.  Now this is due to several reasons such as the release date, the establishment of the Guitar Hero name, and the compatibility of Rock Band’s instruments with Guitar Hero. Regardless of the issues, Guitar Hero is still outselling Rock Band and now Activision is deciding to go in for the final kill and remove Harmonix’s Rock Band from the gaming map. Judging a Game by its Demo - Red Faction Crushes the Competition

Friday, 1 May, 2009

Today in Judging a Game by its Demo I will be reviewing three demos to determine whether or not they are worth the purchase: Red Faction Guerrilla for Xbox 360, Chronicles of Riddick for Xbox 360, and Resistance Retribution for the PSP.  lets get started shall we…

Red Faction: Guerrilla (XBOX 360)- The demo starts off with a theatrical trailer for the game, which includes the standard deep voice movie guy as the narrator.  It starts off pretty amusing with the use of the narrator, but once game play is shown in the trailer your amusement will turn into amazement.

Once the game starts, you get to experience the amazement you saw in the trailer for yourself. You start at a set location on Mars (oh, if you didn’t know, Red Faction is a game based in Mars) and are given the mission to locate and take control of a large machine they call the Walker.  This machine is strategically located in the middle of a highly guarded base that you need to fight your way though in order to complete your objective.  Thankfully, you are provided with enough weapons to not only  get through the level, but to get through the level with an extensive amount of destruction.  Read the rest of this entry »

MyUniSpot Launch

Monday, 27 April, 2009

Yep, its a welcome post.

I would like to personally welcome everyone to MyUniSpot. As being the first post, I want to let you know a little about this site. MyUniSpot is a blog made for the everyday college student informing you on everything that students have interest in. Now Before I Bore You with the details on why we were made and what our vision is lets move on to what you want to read about.  Now since this post has no set topic that I am concentrating on except for introducing you to the site, what would be better than a random scatter of college interest stories that will directly relate to future post that you may read.

snakes-on-planeRecently, as many of you may have heard, the epic movie “Snakes on a Plane” has become reality.  A plane in Australia was landed because 4 pythons that were stored in cargo went missing.  The plane was landed and the snakes were not found.  It was reported that a reptile expert was called and he stated that the other snakes may have ate the 4 missing snakes…Yummy. Final verdict: Reptile expert…WRONG! They weighed the remaining snakes and they had not been any heavier than before.  Way to go “expert.” Anyway, they ended up fumigating(loading the thing with chemicals) the plane and said quote, “If these snakes ever turn up on one of our aircrafts, they will be very much dead snakes.”  Good going buddy, I am sure the passengers on the next flight in Australia are going to love the smell of dead snakes on the plane.  So here’s my suggestion, give Samuel L. Jackson on the phone and I guarantee you he will get those Mother Read the rest of this entry »
