The Black Mamba vs The King

Wednesday, 20 May, 2009

No, this is not some mythological showdown… actually it is. Kobe Bryant versus Lebron James in the NBA finals would be epic. Even though it’s not the NBA finals and these two teams aren’t facing each other, it’s still exciting to think about. It’s going to happen the Los Angeles Lakers are going to face the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kobe is going to face Lebron James in the finals… how much better could it be? Bryant and James are two of the most dominant players in basketball and some of the most athletic people on earth. I could see both of these players being two sport athletes. CLICK HERE TO SEE LEBRON IN THE NFL! CLICK HERE TO SEE KOBE’S SOCCER SKILLS! So the big question is who is better? Lakers fans of course will say Kobe and Cavaliers fans will say Lebron. But who is honestly better? Its tough to say exactly who is better. This topic is likely to spark up a huge argument. It’s one of the most controversial topics right now in the NBA. It’s like comparing Michael Jordan to another player, everyone will be fighting to prove a point. What makes Kobe or Lebron the better player? Rookie year? Their peaks? Championships? MVP Awards? Olympic Gold medals? Stats? All-Star trips?

Misty’s Top Box Office Chart!

Tuesday, 19 May, 2009

movie-chartTo see if movies are hits or fails, I often read movie reviews. But, I have also picked up a faster way…it’s looking at top box office charts. I think it is a good way to pick a movie when I am on the rush. It isn’t as accurate as reading a movie review, but I just compare how many weeks it has been in office with how many weeks it has been released. I usually go on yahoo or box office mojo to look at the most recent charts; I compared it with others, and they pretty much look exactly alike. Since I really like the organization and efficiency of the charts…and to me they are interesting to read, I decided to make my own Top Box Office Chart based upon the most recent weekend Friday May 15, 2009 - Sunday May 17, 2009.

Of these top 10, I chose 3 I definitely want to see…and here is why. Read the rest of this entry »

2009 Superhero Movies!

Tuesday, 5 May, 2009

In the action/adventure movie genres, some of the most popular stories are based upon super heroes or comic books. Last year was a big hit and earned loads of cash in the movie industry. The hits were The Dark Knight ($155.5 million for its opening weekend), Iron Man ($100.8 million), Hancock ($66 million), and The Incredible Hulk ($48.7 million). For 2009, this years movies are Watchmen ($55.6 million), X-Men Origins:Wolverine ($35 million) and the upcoming ones are G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

1. Watchmen

watchmen_poster16jpg

Actors: Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Good, Jackie Earle Haley.

Release date: March 6, 2009

Director: Zack Snyder

Watchmen was based upon a graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. This movie brings out an artistic appeal. It is set in an alternate universe in 1985, during Nixon’s presidency. The world’s biggest threat is nuclear war with the Soviet Union, and the only superheroes that are not outlawed by the government to use their “powers” are Dr. Manhattan and The Comedian. However, there is also a mysterious man trying to kill each of the superheroes.

I saw this movie after hearing all the hype about it. I either heard bad reviews or extremely good ones. I ended up not liking the movie and the people who liked it told me it was because I did not understand it. That was absolutely not the case! There was just way too much going on at once. Yes, the story was very interesting, but it was VERY boring to watch.

2. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Actors: Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Dominic Monaghan

Release Date: May 1, 2009

Director: Gain Hood

The second Super Hero film this year; this movie is centered on Marvel’s Wolverine. It’s a prequel to the X-Men Trilogy. The movie tells about Wolverine’s (Hugh Jackman’s) past, revenge against Victor Creed, and the Weapon X program. Wolverine came out last Friday, and I have not seen it yet. But, I have heard bad reviews on the bootleg version, and I have heard mix reviews about the actual movie. I guess I will have to see for myself! :)

17 Again is The Story We’ve Heard Before

Tuesday, 28 April, 2009

17 Again was #1 in the box offices when it came out, and I have to admit, the trailer got me to swoon over Zac Efron’s good looks and is the reason for my minor celebrity crush. But, in the movie they portray him as being pretty…way too pretty boy for my tastes.

17 Again is quite similar to other typical movies that send a person to a different age…think 13 going on 30 and Big. Or also, similar to the countless cliché “popular guy” characters who go downhill after high school. We’ve all heard and seen these types before. Both are very used-up in Hollywood.

17again1Mike is the main character; the older version is Matthew Perry and the younger version is Zac Efron. (Which I found weird, because out of all people they casted Zac and Matthew to play Mike… They are nothing alike!). The movie starts off when Mike was a popular jock in high school with the perfect hair and the perfect body. The basketball coach, Coach Murphy tells him a college scout is coming to watch the game for scholarships. During the game, he sees his girlfriend Scarlet, played by Leslie Mann and finds out she is pregnant. He decides to stay with her and marry her. He suddenly wakes up and now, in his thirties, he hates his life and job, his marriage with Scarlet is falling apart, his children think he is a loser, and he is very unattractive. Here’s one of the predictable parts… Read the rest of this entry »

I would like to personally welcome everyone to MyUniSpot. As being the first post, I want to let you know a little about this site. MyUniSpot is a blog made for the everyday college student informing you on everything that students have interest in. Now Before I Bore You with the details on why we were made and what our vision is lets move on to what you want to read about.  Now since this post has no set topic that I am concentrating on except for introducing you to the site, what would be better than a random scatter of college interest stories that will directly relate to future post that you may read.

snakes-on-planeRecently, as many of you may have heard, the epic movie “Snakes on a Plane” has become reality.  A plane in Australia was landed because 4 pythons that were stored in cargo went missing.  The plane was landed and the snakes were not found.  It was reported that a reptile expert was called and he stated that the other snakes may have ate the 4 missing snakes…Yummy. Final verdict: Reptile expert…WRONG! They weighed the remaining snakes and they had not been any heavier than before.  Way to go “expert.” Anyway, they ended up fumigating(loading the thing with chemicals) the plane and said quote, “If these snakes ever turn up on one of our aircrafts, they will be very much dead snakes.”  Good going buddy, I am sure the passengers on the next flight in Australia are going to love the smell of dead snakes on the plane.  So here’s my suggestion, give Samuel L. Jackson on the phone and I guarantee you he will get those Mother Read the rest of this entry »
