Vick is back in the NFL

Wednesday, 27 May, 2009

Michael Vick was released on March 20, 2009 after serving 21 months in jail. Vick plead guilty in August of 2007 to a federal charge of bank rolling a dog fight operation in his Virginia home. In December 2007, he was sentenced to serve a 23 month federal prison term; 3 years of prison time in Virginia on other charges was suspended upon condition of good behavior. With loss of his substantial NFL and product endorsement income, Vick filed for Chapter 11 reorganization bankruptcy protection in July 2008, with liabilities of $20.5 million and assets of $16 million. U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Frank Santoro said the plan requested up to $1 million in cash to paid to creditors but did not believe Vick could immediately produce that amount of money in a short amount of time. Santoro suggested that Vick should do away with two houses and three cars he intended to keep in the rejected proposal. Read the rest of this entry »

The Black Mamba vs The King

Wednesday, 20 May, 2009

No, this is not some mythological showdown… actually it is. Kobe Bryant versus Lebron James in the NBA finals would be epic. Even though it’s not the NBA finals and these two teams aren’t facing each other, it’s still exciting to think about. It’s going to happen the Los Angeles Lakers are going to face the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kobe is going to face Lebron James in the finals… how much better could it be? Bryant and James are two of the most dominant players in basketball and some of the most athletic people on earth. I could see both of these players being two sport athletes. CLICK HERE TO SEE LEBRON IN THE NFL! CLICK HERE TO SEE KOBE’S SOCCER SKILLS! So the big question is who is better? Lakers fans of course will say Kobe and Cavaliers fans will say Lebron. But who is honestly better? Its tough to say exactly who is better. This topic is likely to spark up a huge argument. It’s one of the most controversial topics right now in the NBA. It’s like comparing Michael Jordan to another player, everyone will be fighting to prove a point. What makes Kobe or Lebron the better player? Rookie year? Their peaks? Championships? MVP Awards? Olympic Gold medals? Stats? All-Star trips?

Manny Pacquiao has become one of the biggest names in boxing after defeating Oscar De La Hoya, a future hall of famer, and Ricky Hatton. Pacquiao’s road to domination started when he was 16. Pacquiao went pro when he was sixteen and his first major fight was against Mexican boxing legend, Marco Antonio Barrera. barrera-pacquiaoHe fought Barrera twice and defeated him both times. Manny Pacquiao was on his way to earning the name “The Mexi-cutioner”. He faced Erik Morales three times and defeated him two out of three times and lost in a 12 round unanimous decision. Pacquiao won the tie breaker between the two with a knockout in the third round. Pacquiao also fought another Mexican boxer, Juan Manuel Marquez, and lost one and won one, both being disputed split decisions.

Pacquiao’s rise to the top has come within the last couple of months. On December 6, 2008, Pacquiao faced Oscar De La Hoya at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, in a fight called Dream Match. Pacquiao dominated De La Hoya from the first round till the eighth round. De La Hoya’s corner had no choice but to throw in the towel before the start of the 9th round. Pacquiao won via technical knockout. Pacquiao then went on to fight Ricky Hatton. Pacquiao started the fight strong, knocking down a sluggish, overconfident Hatton twice in the first round. At the bell, Hatton seemed to have re-grouped, he was holding his own until he was knocked out by a vicious left hook by Pacquiao with 2:59 into the second round, awarding Pacquiao the win by KO. 2009 NFL Draft Review

Wednesday, 6 May, 2009

The Radio City Music Hall was packed with anxious fans, nervous college football stars, and critical football analysts. The 2009 NFL Draft was full of surprises, especially on the first day. The first surprise was when the New York Jets, who had the first-round 17th pick, traded up for the Cleveland Browns first-round 5th pick and drafted USC quarterback Mark Sanchez. The Jets traded the Browns their 17th pick and 52nd pick plus DE Kenyon Coleman, QB Brett Ratliff and DB Abram Elam; however the Jets and their fans felt like they acquired the better trade.jetsfans Sanchez stole all the limelight from, Georgia quarterback, Matthew Stafford especially after, the supposedly overrated, Stafford was booed as he was selected first by the Detroit Lions. Both quarterbacks are destined to take the reins early on in their career, so we will see who was the better pick.

The next big surprise came from the Oakland Raiders when they made two controversial picks in the first and second round of the draft. The Raiders had the first-round 7th pick and the second-round 15th pick. The Raiders were in need of explosive, play making receivers like Michael Crabtree, who was the best receiver in the draft and was available at the time, however Al Davis had something else in mind.
